Artspace Aotearoa is looking for a Curatorial Intern to join their team on Karangahape Road, Auckland, for an 11-month fixed-term, part-time contract running January to December 2027. This is a paid role at $31.50 per hour, 30 hours per week (Wednesday–Friday 10am–6pm, Saturday 10am–4pm).

This internship is designed for someone at an early or emerging stage of their arts career who wants hands-on experience in a dynamic public gallery setting. You'll work closely with the Deputy Director and wider team to support the delivery of Artspace Aotearoa's 2027 exhibition programme — from install schedules through to event production and budgeting.

A key part of the role is coordinating and managing the annual volunteers programme, including acting as shift manager on Saturdays. You'll also gain experience in funding and grants work alongside the Deputy Director.

During onboarding you'll identify your own learning interests, which will shape your workflow and help match you with an external mentor. You'll set realistic learning outcomes with management and receive a budget to deliver your own programme strand.

**Key responsibilities include:**
- Assisting with installation and production of exhibitions throughout the year
- Managing the volunteers programme and co-ordinating schedules
- Developing and tracking budgets for openings and events
- Welcoming visitors, leading tours, and engaging with learners and artists
- Supporting funding applications and processes
- Participating in tikanga-led events and representing Artspace Aotearoa professionally

**The ideal candidate will have (at an emerging level):**
- A broad knowledge of contemporary art
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Some experience working with artists, technicians, or creatives
- A basic understanding of exhibition installation
- Confidence in public-facing situations and a willingness to take initiative

By the end of the internship you'll have assisted on multiple exhibitions, managed a volunteer programme, practised budget tracking, and built new professional connections across the contemporary art sector.

**To apply:** Send an expression of interest and your CV to bridget@artspace.org.nz by 5pm Thursday 19 November. Expressions of interest are also accepted in AV format.
