**Disciplines:** Glass
**Career stage:** Emerging, Early Career

New Zealand Glassworks Te Whare Tūhua o Te Ao (NZG), supported by Creative New Zealand, is offering its 2027 Internship Programme — a paid, intensive six-month opportunity for two emerging glass artists based in Whanganui.

Running from 27 April to 5 November 2027, the programme consists of 27 contact weeks (440 hours total) and pays interns $30 per hour. It's structured to give you a real grounding in both the craft and the business of glass:

- **4 weeks** assisting a Professional Artist in Residence in the hotshop (3 days/week)
- **3 weeks** of professional and business development training with Whanganui District Council's economic development team and the NZG Manager (2 days/week, spread throughout)
- **20 weeks** of dedicated glassblowing time — 15 weeks with a professional mentor (2 days/week), plus 5 weeks combining one mentored day and one self-directed studio day per week

Interns will have full access to NZG's coldworking facilities and receive a stipend for glass colour.

**Who can apply?**
The programme is open to NZ citizens and permanent residents with fewer than 10 years of professional practice and some prior hot-glass experience. A tertiary qualification in glass is not required — experience through workshops, mentorships, studio practice, or vocational training all counts. Two interns will be selected by a panel of artists, educators, and NZG management.

**To apply**, submit a completed application form along with:
- A cover letter describing your practice, glass experience, and what you hope to gain
- Two referee contacts
- A current CV (max 2 pages)
- One letter of support
- A portfolio of 6–8 images (PowerPoint or PDF) with image details

Applications close at 1 pm on 9 November 2026. Interviews will be held 13–20 November 2026, with successful applicants notified by 30 November 2026.

Send your application to Madeline Prowd, NZG Manager, at madeline@nzglassworks.com or 2 Rutland St, Whanganui 4500. For enquiries, contact info@nzglassworks.com or phone 06 927 6803.
