The 2026 VISUREAL · International Image Art Festival (VIIAF) invites submissions from artists and art organizations worldwide. Held in Chengdu, China, the festival is a leading international platform dedicated to image-based art, integrating artistic practice with research-driven curatorial inquiry. Theme: Interwoven Time-Spaces: From Waystations to Nodes The festival explores how human connections are formed across time, space, and technology by treating the "Silk Road" as a dynamic cultural field rather than a static historical route. The theme unfolds through four dimensions: Waystations (History & Memory), Corridors (Human Mobility), Trade Routes (Material Flow), and Nodes (Technology & Networks). Accepted Media: VIIAF welcomes a diverse range of image-based works, including: Photography Video art & Short films Animation Interactive media AI-generated imagery AR/VR immersive installations Festival & Residency Schedule (2026): Selected artists will be invited to Chengdu for a site visit and residency to develop their creative work. May 1: Announcement of selected artists. June 6–8: Selected residency program artists arrive in Chengdu. June 9–11: 3-Day Site Visit. June 12–25: Two-Week Residency for Creative Work (4 Days Preparation + 6 Days Filming + 4 Days Post-Production). June 26: Festival Opening Ceremony. June 26–28: Three-Day Screening Festival. June 26 – Sept 26: Documenta Exhibition.
