About
Month-long summer residencies in a historic New York barn studio, open to individual artists, collaborative teams, and families.
The Wassaic Project is accepting applications for its 2027 Summer Artist Residency, offering artists a creative space untethered from outcomes — a true laboratory for experimentation and discovery.
Located in the hamlet of Wassaic, New York, the residency places artists within a vibrant community in the historic Luther Barn. Residents receive 24-hour access to a 200–300 sq. ft. semi-private studio, plus shared access to a print shop and wood shop. Accommodation is provided in a shared house with private bedrooms and common areas; families participating through the Family Residency programme receive a private house.
Each session runs for approximately four weeks (with one two-week option in September), with four sessions across the summer:
- June 3 – June 28
- July 8 – August 2
- August 5 – August 30
- September 2 – September 15
Monthly programming includes open studios, group studio visits with embedded critics, and one-on-one studio visits and artist talks with creative professionals.
The residency fee operates on a sliding scale from $0–$900 per session. Financial assistance is available and the review process is strictly need-blind. Those who are able to contribute are encouraged to pay the full $900.
Applications are open to individual artists, collaborative teams, groups of two or more artists, and families. Applicants submit via SlideRoom with work samples, a CV, two references, a short proposal (max 200 words), and a statement defining their criteria for success.
Zoom office hours are available on select dates in April, May, June, and July — check the Wassaic Project website for details.
Notifications will be sent in early October 2026.
