About
Open call to exhibit in the historic Maxon Mills building in New York, welcoming ready-to-hang work, site-specific installations, performances, and printed work
The Wassaic Project invites contemporary visual and performing artists to apply for their 2027 Summer Exhibition, held inside the striking Maxon Mills building in Wassaic, New York.
Four types of proposals are welcome
- Ready-to-hang work – finished pieces suited to a gallery hang
- Site-specific installations – works conceived for the unique architecture of Maxon Mills
- Temporary installations and performances – time-based or ephemeral works
- Printed works – editions, multiples, and print-based practice
You can submit multiple proposals in a single application. Artists are selected based on the quality of their work and how well it fits within the broader curatorial vision for the exhibition.
Artists proposing site-specific installations are also eligible for an optional Exhibitions Residency to support the realisation of their work — no separate application required.
Applications are submitted via SlideRoom and must include
- Contact information and CV or publication list (up to 3 pages)
- A project proposal with a formal description of the work, a 3-sentence conceptual statement, and any special installation notes
- A portfolio of 1–10 work samples (images, video, audio, or PDF)
- Videos submitted must be under 1 minute, with a link to the full version
The application fee is $25 USD. If this presents a financial hardship, you can email danielle@wassaicproject.org to request a fee waiver.
Optional Zoom office hours are available on: April 22, May 6, May 20, June 3, June 17, and July 1 (2–4 PM). Notifications are sent within 90 days of the deadline, and accepted artists have 7 days to confirm their participation.
