About
A one-year international arts-science fellowship based in Cambridge, offering stipend, accommodation, production budget and engagement with physicists.
The Cavendish Arts Science (CAS) Fellowship is an annual international fellowship delivered in partnership with Girton College, University of Cambridge, made possible by the generous support of Una Ryan.
Running from October 2026 to October 2027, the Fellowship is designed for artists of any medium, nationality or career background who want to develop adventurous, boundary-pushing work through genuine engagement with physicists and researchers at the world-renowned Cavendish Laboratory.
The Fellowship is deliberately open — there's no prescribed theme, medium or aesthetic. Artists with no previous experience of working with scientists or in scientific environments are especially encouraged to apply. The programme values experimental, playful approaches to art-making, and seeks artists who work with communities that are not privileged in the mainstream and who explore alternative ways of knowing the world.
What the Fellowship includes:
- A stipend of £10,000 GBP (inclusive of all taxes) towards living costs and expenses
- Rent-free accommodation and meals at Girton College during the Cambridge residency period (at least six months, up to one year)
- A production budget of £10,000 GBP to support new work development
- A travel budget of up to £3,000 GBP to support travel to/from Cambridge
- A studio and creative workspace at Girton College
- Access to flexible working spaces at the Cavendish Laboratory
- Election as a Visiting Fellow Commoner in the Arts at Girton College
The residency period in Cambridge is flexible and can be split across two visits within the Fellowship year. The Fellowship is part-time, and artists are welcome to continue other commitments alongside it.
Joint applications from artist partnerships are accepted, though the budget and accommodation provisions remain fixed.
All interviews will be held via Zoom on Wednesday 22 July 2026. Interviews can be conducted with translation support if needed — please indicate this in your application.
