The Markaz Review invites emerging and established writers, artists, and creators worldwide to submit their work. The publication's mission is to amplify voices from the Middle East, North Africa, and Southwest Asia (SWANA) by seeking writing and art from and about these regions that are often overlooked or reduced to stereotypes in Western narratives. Compensation & Fees: Entry Fee: Free to submit. Compensation: Contributors may receive an honorarium paid within approximately 30 days of publication. Current Theme: MEDITERRANEANS (Deadline: April 10, 2026) The upcoming issue explores the ancient and contemporary flow of people and civilizations crisscrossing the Mediterranean region. Submissions can engage with histories of empire, trade, migration, exile, man-made ecological disasters, or the vibrant, hopeful, and celebratory realities of the region. Accepted formats: Writing, art, photography, film, music, and other creative forms. General Submissions (Rolling Deadline) In addition to bimonthly themed issues, The Markaz Review publishes regular weekly pieces. General submissions are accepted year-round (except for brief closures in August and December). Accepted formats: Essays, feature articles, short stories, memoirs, translations, creative nonfiction, poetry, reviews (books, film, music, art, theatre), profiles, and interviews. Guidelines & Policies: No AI Policy: All submissions must be strictly human-created. Languages: Open to work in multiple languages (some content appears in English and is often translated). Simultaneous Submissions: Permitted, provided you inform the editors upon submitting via the DUOSUMA platform, and contact them immediately if accepted elsewhere.
