Point Pleasant Publishing is an international contemporary art publisher based on the New Jersey Shore, specialising in critical curatorial essays on experimental and conceptual visual art. Founded in 2014, they publish the Artist Feature Catalogue — a linen-wrapped hardcover art book featuring in-depth scholarly essays on selected artists from around the world.
Selected artists receive a generous six-page spread with a detailed curatorial review essay written entirely by human editors (no AI). Essays are also published on the Point Pleasant website and Substack, and one work per published artist is placed on permanent display in the publisher's online gallery on Saatchi Art.
What they accept:
Point Pleasant welcomes experimental and alternative forms of visual art, including photography, performance, video, film, installation, assemblage, collage, fibre/textiles, printmaking, light design, jewellery, fashion/costume design, and analogue digital work. AI-generated work and Instagram-only portfolios are not accepted.
How artists are selected:
Applications are assessed on accomplishments, originality, conceptual impact, portfolio cohesiveness, and aesthetic qualities. Experimental and alternative artists are especially encouraged to apply.
No application fee. No selection fee.
Optional donations are welcome to support operating costs. Artists who donate $90 also receive a copy of the hardcover edition they appear in (saving 10% off the listed price, with free expedited shipping).
How to apply:
Email your CV, three image samples, and a link to your artist website or online portfolio to editor@pointpleasantpublishing.net. Read the application guidelines fully before submitting, and consider reviewing a few published essays to understand the writing style and format.
Future opportunities:
Being published in the catalogue opens doors to future features in press releases, book previews, videos, Shoreline Voice spotlights, and subsequent catalogue editions. Published artists also gain access to Point Pleasant's extensive international network of gallerists, collectors, scholars, and arts administrators.
Terms: Artists retain copyright to their work. By applying, you grant Point Pleasant Publishing permission to use your images in publications and promotions (digital and print). No royalty fees or financial compensation are paid for image usage.
