The Penn Review is currently open for submissions for its Spring 2026 Reading Period. We invite writers and visual artists of all ages to submit poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual art. All submissions are read blind by our editorial team. Submitters can choose between the free general reading period or the 2026 Prize Competition. 2026 Prose, Poetry, and Art Competition: Entry Fee: $10 USD (approx. $17 NZD). Prizes: Winners in each category (Prose, Poetry, Art) will receive a $500 USD (approx. $850 NZD) cash prize and publication. Submission Guidelines: Volume: Submit up to 5 poems, 3 short stories/nonfiction pieces, or 10 works of visual art at one time. Word Count: Fiction and nonfiction pieces should not exceed 2,500 words. Originality: Only previously unpublished work is accepted. We do not accept reprints, including work published on personal websites or blogs. Simultaneous Submissions: Accepted, provided you specify this in your cover letter and notify us immediately if accepted elsewhere.
