About
A curatorship training programme in Utrecht for emerging curators to develop a media art project proposal with mentorship and expert guidance.
IMPAKT [Centre for Media Culture] invites recent graduates and early- to mid-career curators to apply for the Full Spectrum Curatorship Programme 2026 — a practical, mentorship-led training programme focused on curating media art and contemporary art in relation to digital technologies and online environments.
Taking place in Utrecht from September to December 2026, the programme combines collective sessions, personal mentorship, guest speaker contributions, and peer exchange. Participants will be paired with experienced curator mentors to develop a curatorial project proposal, with support in refining and positioning their ideas throughout the process.
Topics covered include the history and theory of media art, curatorial concept development, critical and societal contextualisation, artwork selection, budgets and funding, audience reception, and presentation formats. There is particular focus on time-based media, technological history, and multi-channel and interactive formats.
Confirmed curator mentors include Annet Dekker, Bart Rutten, Ine Gevers, Paulien Dresscher, Doreen A. Ríos (online), and Eva Fischer (IKT Member, online).
The programme selects 12 participants. All sessions are held in English, and participants are expected to commit a minimum of 8 hours per week including preparation and independent work.
Participation fee: €400
Stipend: €800 (paid during the final phase to support project proposal development)
To apply, submit your application via the online form by 23:59 CET on 1 July 2026. Your application should include:
- A curatorial project proposal (max. 2 pages) with a conceptual statement, personal interest, historical/societal context, and suggested artists if applicable
- An up-to-date CV (max. 2 pages), which may include links to past projects
Applications will be assessed on motivation, relevance to professional goals, experience in media arts, clarity and criticality of the project proposal, and originality of approach. Successful applicants will be notified by 16 July 2026.
