About

A 4-week residency in Quebec for established visual artists, offering a grant of up to $10,000 CAD to explore environmental issues through art.

Through its commitment, the Grantham Foundation wishes to provide significant support for the development and dissemination of thoughtful and innovative projects whose subject matter, materials, or approach recognise the importance of the aesthetic, social, and global implications of current environmental issues. While not making it a requirement, the Foundation encourages artists to propose projects inspired by the specific characteristics of the environment in which the Foundation is located (Saint-Edmond-de-Grantham, Quebec). Residency & Grant Details: Phase 1 (The Residency): A four-week research-creation stay at the Foundation (available in January, February, July, or August 2027), followed by a public presentation of the work in progress. For this phase, the winner receives a grant of $5,000 CAD (approx. $6,100 NZD). Phase 2 (Project Follow-up): Collaboration may continue in the following months for a solo exhibition, performative actions, an artist’s book, etc. Additional support of up to $5,000 CAD may be granted for this second phase. Travel: A lump sum allowance of up to $1,000 CAD (approx. $1,220 NZD) is available to cover part of the travel expenses for those living more than 500 km away. Location & Workspace: The Foundation is located next to a small river, in a wooded area on the edge of a forest, some 100 km east of Montreal. It was designed to foster an all-season dialogue between the indoor spaces and the outside surroundings. Site-specific work is permitted and encouraged, provided it respects the integrity of the place. Eligibility: Open to visual artists residing in Quebec, Canada, or abroad. (International artists are responsible for their own visa/administrative procedures). Minimum of five years of professional experience required. Artist duos are eligible. Eligible practices: photography, installation, sculpture, painting, graphic arts, performance art, sound, digital, and media arts.
