Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant
Free international photojournalism grant of £10,000 for photographers aged 24 and under, or full-time photography students, to fund a new project.
The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant is a free, globally open competition honouring the legacy of photojournalist Ian Parry, who died on assignment in Romania in 1989 aged just 24. Now in its fourth decade, the grant supports young and emerging photographers taking their first steps in photojournalism.
To be eligible, you must be 24 years of age or under, or enrolled in a full-time photography course (applicants aged 25 or over must provide proof of student status). The competition is open to photographers from all countries — there are no geographical restrictions.
To apply, you'll need to submit a portfolio of up to 12 photographs (either a photo essay or individual images), extended captions for each image as a PDF, a project description for the portfolio you're submitting, and a clear proposal for a new project you would undertake if you received the grant. Note that digitally manipulated or staged photography will not be accepted.
The recipient receives £10,000 (paid in two equal instalments of £5,000), a loan of Canon equipment, publication of work through media partner The Guardian, eligibility for the Hamburg portfolio review, and entry into the VII Mentorship programme. The grant also includes a year-long personal mentorship and a photography assignment from renowned photojournalist Giles Duley (founder of the Legacy of War Foundation).
Additional awards include the Gentex Corp Personal Safety Award (body armour and Hostile Environment Training) for one recipient, and a professional photography commission from Save the Children for one finalist. A selection of finalists will also have their work spotlighted by the judging panel and across IPPG channels.
Submissions open 1 May 2026, with a deadline of 1 September 2026. Recipients are announced in October 2026.
