About

Open call for Māori artists to create or exhibit art installations along Karanga-a-Hape Road for a free outdoor Matariki celebration on 9 July.

The Karangahape Business Association, in collaboration with artist Nayesha Mulholland (Ngāti Uepohatu, Ngāti Porou), is inviting Māori artists to submit expressions of interest for art installations as part of a free outdoor Matariki celebration along Karanga-a-Hape Road.

Works will be displayed on Thursday 9 July, with potential to remain in place for an extended period. Both day and night viewing are expected, so artists should factor this into their proposals.

This kaupapa is open to artists working across all mediums — whether you'd like to exhibit an existing work or develop something new specifically for this occasion. Artists who live or work around Karanga-a-Hape are especially encouraged to get in touch.

Resourcing for development and installation is available, and further details will be discussed with selected artists.

To apply, please include:

  • A brief description of your proposed or existing work
  • Images or sketches (if available)
  • Technical requirements and installation considerations
  • A short artist bio and contact details

Submissions can be in any format, though PDF is encouraged. Send your expression of interest to nayesha.mulholland@gmail.com by Tuesday 2 June 2026. Feel free to reach out with any questions — mauri ora!
