The Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellowship offers a New Zealand writer the opportunity to live and work in Menton, France — the town where Katherine Mansfield spent time during her life — for a minimum of three months in 2027.

This prestigious fellowship supports writers to develop their practice, explore new directions, and produce new work in the inspiring environment that shaped one of Aotearoa's most celebrated literary figures.

What you'll need to apply:

  • A signed cover sheet and conditions declaration
  • A covering letter
  • A statement on how the residency will develop your career or impact your work
  • A writing sample (no more than 20 pages)
  • A brief outline of the work you plan to undertake in Menton
  • Your availability for a minimum three-month residency in 2027
  • A résumé or literary CV listing published work, awards, and professional history
  • Any other relevant supporting information

What's expected of recipients:

  • Acknowledge the Fellowship in any published work arising from the residency
  • Participate in media interviews, publicity, and promotion
  • Arrange your own accommodation and travel
  • Arrange travel insurance (and provide proof before departure)
  • Liaise with Menton City Council and local contacts as required
  • Submit a project completion report within 12 weeks of returning
  • Potentially make one public appearance or presentation on behalf of the Fellowship

All applicants will be notified of outcomes by email within two months of the closing date.
