About

Month-long land art residency on Hestøya Island, Norway, open to artists worldwide, with €1,000 stipend, accommodation, food and transport covered.

The Land Art Museum on Hestøya Island, Namsos, is inviting artists from around the world to apply for its 2026 Artist-in-Residence Programme. This is a rare opportunity to spend up to one month creating site-specific land art on a beautiful island in Mid-Norway, where coastal and inland climates meet, diverse tree species thrive, and remnants of former agricultural land offer rich creative possibilities.

The entire island — including its coastal and maritime zones — is available as your canvas. You'll be expected to create work that integrates meaningfully into the natural environment, has no adverse ecological impact, and is designed to remain on the island permanently as part of the Land Art Museum's ongoing outdoor collection.

What you receive:

  • A €1,000 stipend on completion of your work
  • Up to one month's accommodation, food, and local transport fully covered
  • Production support to help realise your project

Who should apply:

Artists who work specifically within land art practice and can demonstrate a thoughtful, ecologically sensitive approach. Works must use or respond to natural materials and environments without causing harm to the island's habitat.

To apply, send the following to landartmuseum@gmail.com:

  • CV and artist bio
  • A detailed proposal: description of the proposed work, visual materials or sketches, and planned materials and techniques
  • A statement of intent explaining your interest in the residency
  • Your preferred dates and length of stay (up to one month between 15 August and 20 September 2026)

Note: Incomplete applications or those lacking clear visual documentation will not be considered. All artists must be willing to sign a contract agreeing to leave their completed artwork on the island.

Residency dates: 15 August – 20 September 2026 (up to one month within this period)

Deadline: 1 May 2026
