About

Year-long residency in Nebraska focusing on non-digital arts, community building, and teaching. Includes a private studio and monthly housing/materials stipends

The LUX Center for the Arts, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is dedicated to transforming lives through art. Our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program is a year-long opportunity for those with a desire to teach, share the experience of art-making, and support a vibrant community. This residency focuses on manual (non-digital) arts. Residencies are granted based on the quality of work, desire to teach, community-mindedness, experience, and demonstrated seriousness of practice. Residency Expectations & Teaching: Residents bring a unique set of skills and interests that enliven our classrooms. Residents are expected to teach 1 to 3 classes or workshops per week (for adults and grades K-12) and will help develop new classes based on the techniques and topics that interest them. Residents will be responsible for requesting work hours, and LUX will provide at least 15 paid hours each week upon request. Financial Support & Benefits: Artists-in-Residence are considered employees of LUX. Housing Stipend: $400 USD (approx. $685 NZD) per month. Materials Stipend: $120 USD (approx. $205 NZD) per month. Hourly Wage: $20 USD (approx. $34 NZD) per hour for teaching, gallery work, and shop support. (Outreach classes are paid at $25 USD / approx. $43 NZD per hour). Studio Access: A free private studio, 24-hour access, and use of all studio equipment. Exhibition: A solo exhibition during the residency, plus opportunities to curate group shows. Sales: Residents receive 60% of any sales made through the LUX in-person and online shop. Conferences: Partial reimbursement to attend one conference each year. Note: LUX does not provide housing or medical insurance. International artists may apply, but you must already possess a visa that allows you to work and receive pay in the US, as LUX cannot sponsor visa applications.
