About
A 4–6 week fellowship in Utrecht for artists, writers, and innovators exploring hidden social, ecological, and systemic issues, with up to €10,000 funding.
Utrecht University's Critical Pathways Fellowships invite artists, filmmakers, writers, and other creative practitioners to spend 4–6 weeks in Utrecht (October–November 2026) exploring the hidden structures, inequities, and systemic forces shaping contemporary society.
Fellows are encouraged to take experimental, interdisciplinary approaches — projects can span artistic, research, or hybrid formats, and outputs might include workshops, performances, film screenings, installations, or other creative work. The programme is built around making invisible systems visible: uncovering overlooked social, cultural, and ecological phenomena and sparking genuine dialogue around sustainable alternatives.
What's on offer:
- Up to €10,000 to cover travel, accommodation, living expenses, and visa costs
- Access to university office space, library, and ICT resources
- Integration into Utrecht University's Critical Pathways and Circular Economy & Society research communities
- Networking and collaboration opportunities within and beyond the university
Who can apply:
The fellowship is open to international applicants from all backgrounds — artists, activists, journalists, academics, filmmakers, sustainability practitioners, and more. No PhD or formal academic qualifications are required. Both emerging and experienced practitioners are welcome.
To apply, submit a completed application form, your CV, and a project proposal outlining the hidden issues you intend to explore, your intended outputs, and how you plan to engage with the broader community. Applications go directly to coordinator Tom Gerritsen at criticalpathways@uu.nl.
Deadline: 27 April 2026.
