About

Milton Keynes Council invites artists, collectives, and creative practitioners to propose newly commissioned works or participatory projects for presentation at Midsummer Festival 2026. The opportunity offers £7,000 funding and is open to all artists regardless of location or background.

Milton Keynes City Council invites proposals from artists, collectives, or creative practitioners for a newly commissioned artwork or participatory project to be presented at the Milton Keynes Midsummer Festival on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The festival transforms Midsummer Boulevard into a joyful, colour-filled stage. We are seeking ambitious, engaging, and high-quality proposals that respond to the spirit of midsummer (light, renewal, connection, nature, celebration), engage diverse communities, are suitable for outdoor public settings, and encourage shared experiences. Commission Details: The commission may take the form of (but is not limited to): temporary public art installations, participatory performances or processions, light/sound/digital artworks, interactive sculptures, or community co-created work. Budget: Up to £7,000 GBP (approx. $14,700 NZD) inclusive of VAT. This must cover all expenses, including artist fees, materials, fabrication, technical requirements, transport, installation/de-installation, insurance, access costs, and community engagement activity. Note: Proposals must consider weather-resilience, be safe and compliant with UK health & safety regulations, and be installable within a short timeframe.
