About

Creative Australia offers development opportunities for Australian creative and cultural practitioners to engage with the Venice Biennale and expand their professional networks. These programs support artists, curators, and cultural practitioners in building international connections and deepening their engagement with the contemporary art world.

Creative Australia’s Biennale Delegates Program is a professional development opportunity for individuals working in the visual arts sector (producers, technicians, writers, curators, artists, project managers) who are living in Australia. The program facilitates an exchange of ideas and supports the seeding of future projects by providing access to the Biennale of Sydney and the Venice Biennale. In 2026, the intake will be eight individuals (one representative from each State and Territory). Program Format & Dates: Participants will shape their experience through curated workshops, mentorship with sector leaders, and collaborative learning between May and October 2026. Delegates must commit to 14 days of in-person engagement: Sydney (Face-to-Face): 10 – 14 June 2026 (Biennale of Sydney) Venice (Face-to-Face): 17 – 27 September 2026 (Venice Biennale) (Plus three online group sessions in May, July, and August). Funding & Support Provided: Grant: $4,750 AUD (approx. $5,130 NZD) to support participation, professional development, and incidentals/meals across both intensives. Travel & Accommodation: Creative Australia will arrange and pay for accommodation in Sydney and Venice. They will also reimburse one return flight to Sydney (up to $800 AUD) and one to Venice (up to $2,500 AUD). Insurance: Travel insurance costs will be reimbursed up to $250 AUD. (Additional accessibility, interpreting, or childcare support is provided on a case-by-case basis). Eligibility: Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident living in Australia. Must be early career, defined as within five to ten years of practice or experience. NSW Applicants Only: Must be living and working in Western Sydney to be eligible. Cannot have participated in a professional development opportunity with Creative Australia in the last four years. Must comply with First Nations Cultural and Intellectual Property Protocols if the application involves First Nations artists, communities, or subject matter.
