About

Artist-run exhibition space in Trondheim invites solo, group, and curatorial exhibition proposals for their 2027/2028 programme.

BABEL, an artist-run exhibition space in Trondheim, Norway, is inviting applications for exhibitions to be held in 2027 and 2028. Founded in 2006, BABEL operates from a newly renovated former gymnasium with 110 m² of floor space, six-metre ceilings, and natural light — making it particularly well suited to large-scale works and ambitious exhibition formats.

Professional visual artists and craft artists from anywhere in the world are encouraged to apply. You can propose a fully realised solo or group exhibition, a work-in-progress concept, or a curatorial project — the space is genuinely open to a wide range of ideas. There are no formal requirements around conceptual or material frameworks; applications are assessed primarily on visual material.

What's on offer:

  • Exhibition fee of NOK 12,000
  • NOK 3,000 transportation support for artists based outside Trøndelag
  • Free access to LKV's shared workshops during the exhibition period, including wood, metal, printmaking, analogue photography, ceramics, and large-scale production facilities
  • Exhibition documentation, marketing and communications support, basic hosting, and practical assistance

Babel is transparent about its resources: the exhibition fee will not always cover the full costs of production, so artists are strongly encouraged to seek additional funding from external sources.

To apply, you'll need a Google account to complete and submit the application form via Google Forms on the BABEL/LKV website. Your portfolio should clearly represent your practice and previous work. A written introduction or exhibition proposal is only needed if it helps contextualise the project.

Note: Artists currently enrolled in the LKV Residency Programme for Other Art Disciplines are generally not eligible to apply.
