About
Propose and edit a full issue of PARSE Journal, an international open-access artistic research publication based in Sweden.
PARSE Journal is inviting proposals from editors and editorial teams to guest-edit a full issue of their respected international artistic research publication. Two slots are available — one for Autumn 2027 and one for Spring 2028.
PARSE is an open-access platform hosted by the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at the University of Gothenburg. It publishes peer-reviewed artistic research and facilitates international dialogue across disciplines. This call is looking for proposals that push boundaries: collapsing subject distinctions, welcoming diverse knowledge forms, and experimenting with writing and thematic approaches.
Who should apply?
Editors or editorial teams with strong grounding in artistic research and a feel for themes that matter right now. You don't need to be based in Sweden — this is an international call.
What's involved?
- You'll work independently to develop your issue, in dialogue with PARSE's Editor-in-Chief and Coordinator.
- You'll be responsible for all communication with contributors and for delivering a complete, publication-ready issue by your agreed deadline.
- A discretionary budget is provided to support issue development (subject to University of Gothenburg financial regulations).
- Editors must sign a publishing contract. If the deadline cannot be met, PARSE reserves the right to revise or cancel the agreement.
Proposals will be assessed on:
- Novelty and contemporary relevance
- Alignment with PARSE's values and scope
- Feasibility of the project
- Competency of the editorial team
Key dates:
- Application deadline: 20 April 2026
- Selection notification: End of May 2026 (if not notified by 15 June 2026, assume your proposal was unsuccessful)
- Autumn 2027 issue: development June 2026 – January 2027; peer review April – June 2027; launch November 2027
- Spring 2028 issue: development June 2026 – September 2027; peer review December 2027 – February 2028; launch May 2028
