About

An 8–12 week photography residency in Céret, France, exploring the theme of Water through research, exhibition, and community engagement.

Lumière d'Encre, a contemporary art centre and photography hub in Céret, southern France, is inviting a professional photographer, photojournalist, or visual artist for its 2026/2027 residency. The central theme is Water — its social, ecological, and cultural significance — explored through a research-driven photographic project rooted in the local landscape of Céret, a border territory between France and Spain.

The residency runs for 8–12 weeks between September 2026 and June 2027, with flexible scheduling. Artists will have access to black-and-white and digital photography laboratories, a 40 m² studio, and a supportive network of local institutions and collaborators.

What's on offer:

  • Residency grant: €3,900 gross
  • Travel allowance: up to €800 (receipts required)
  • Meal allowance: up to €400 (receipts required)
  • Production and printing budget: up to €2,500
  • Additional compensation for pedagogical and mediation activities
  • Access to darkroom and digital labs, and studio space
  • Exhibition and public event opportunities

Participants are expected to engage with the local community through workshops, school programmes, and public presentations. Work produced may be exhibited locally and used for educational purposes after the residency.
