About
Open call for professional artists to create site-specific sound works for a quadraphonic public art platform in Sydhavnen, Aarhus, Denmark.
The Platform for Sound Art 2027 is an open call inviting professional artists worldwide to create site-specific sound works for a unique public art platform in Sydhavnen — a former industrial harbour area in Aarhus, Denmark, now transformed into a vibrant creative neighbourhood.
Selected artists will develop immersive sound compositions designed for a quadraphonic speaker system installed beneath an elevated railway. This distinctive setup allows for spatial audio experiences that engage passers-by in a dynamic, non-traditional exhibition setting. The 2027 programme is conceptually framed around the city as a "living organism" — exploring transformation, collective experience, and sensory interaction.
What you'll receive:
- Exhibition fee of DKK 25,000 per project
- Inclusion in the curated 2027 exhibition programme
- Participation fees for public events
- Institutional support from AaBKC, including guidance on applying for production funding
- Professional exposure and integration into a network of curators, institutions, and cultural actors
Technical requirements:
Final works must be submitted in four-channel audio format (mono MP3 files) compatible with the quadraphonic system.
To apply, submit a single PDF to coordinator@aabkc.dk containing:
- A motivation statement (max 1 page) outlining your artistic approach and relationship to the site
- Up to 3 examples of previous work (audio files as a ZIP if needed)
- A short CV (max 1 page per artist)
The programme is curated in collaboration with Sound Art Lab and the Jutland Academy of Fine Arts. There is no application fee and no nationality restriction — international artists are warmly encouraged to apply.
Notification of results: Early May 2026.
