About
Three artistic research residencies in Karlsruhe, Germany, for artists working at the intersection of performative art and creative technology.
ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe (Hertzlab), in collaboration with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, is offering three artistic research residencies inspired by Rauschenberg's legacy with E.A.T. – Experiments in Art and Technology.
This residency is designed for artists working at the crossroads of performative art and creative technology, embracing both technological openness (from Arduino to Lidar) and formal openness (dance, performance, spoken or musical theatre, physical theatre, mixed/hybrid formats) to create compelling 'Digital Theatre'.
What you'll receive:
- €4,000 scholarship
- €1,000 travel subsidy
- Up to €2,500 for materials
- Housing in a ZKM artist flatshare apartment
- Access to on-site studios and rehearsal rooms including sound studios, a wet lab, VR lab, and co-working space
- Mentoring and support from ZKM staff
- Access to the ZKM Archive, including the E.A.T. archive
- A final rehearsal week culminating in a public showcase in the Kubus (~100 seats)
Residency dates: 1 October – 18 December 2026 (3 months), with a rehearsal week and public showcase from 7–15 January 2027.
Eligibility notes:
- Team applications are permitted, but ZKM will not cover additional accommodation or travel costs beyond a single individual
- Artists must have valid health insurance or international health insurance for Germany at the start of the residency
