Les Rencontres d'Arles
A €20,000 two-phase curatorial research grant for exhibition curators to develop an original photography or image-based exhibition project.
Les Rencontres d'Arles is offering a curatorial research grant worth up to €20,000 to support exhibition curators in developing an original project relating to image or photography. The grant is structured in two phases and is supported by Jean-François Dubos.
Phase 1 — Research
The selected curator receives €5,000 in royalties to carry out six months of research for a proposed exhibition. At the end of this period, they submit a proposal — including an artistic statement, a selection of works, rights information, and a provisional budget — to the Rencontres d'Arles artistic direction team for evaluation.
Phase 2 — Production & Creation
If the research proposal is approved, the project moves into production with a budget of €15,000 managed by the Rencontres d'Arles. This covers artwork loans, transport, production costs (prints, framing, video, etc.), curator and artist invitations during opening week, and insurance. The Rencontres d'Arles additionally covers exhibition design, communications, installation, dismantling, and security.
Importantly, the €5,000 research fee is payable regardless of whether the Phase 2 proposal is approved.
