About
Six-week ceramics-focused artist residency in Minnesota offering studio space, housing, and a stipend. International artists welcome to apply.
The Sister Dennis Frandrup Artist Residency honours the legacy of a beloved ceramics professor who inspired generations of students during her 30-year tenure at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. Applications are open to all artists, including international applicants (though visa arrangements are the artist's own responsibility).
The residency runs for six weeks — April 5 to May 15, 2027 — across two campuses in Saint Joseph and Collegeville, Minnesota, approximately 85 miles from the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport.
What's included:
- A private, light-filled 918 sq. ft. loft studio at the Saint John's Art Center with 24/7 access, Wi-Fi, and flexible furnishings
- Access to fully equipped studios and labs for printmaking, video, sculpture, and photography
- Accommodation at the Collegeville Institute, a lakeside retreat designed by architect Marcel Breuer — fully furnished, family-friendly apartments with kitchen, linens, fireplace, central heating/AC, and wireless internet
- A modest stipend
The programme is explicitly family-friendly. Note that the visiting artist studio is a loft accessed primarily via a spiral staircase, which may affect accessibility.
Residents are typically invited to share their work through a public lecture, studio visits with senior art majors, and an open studio reception at the close of their stay.
To apply, prepare:
- A portfolio of 10 images as a single PDF
- An image list with titles, mediums, and dimensions
- A current CV
- An artist statement
- A proposal outlining how the residency will support your practice
There are no application or residency fees. Travel expenses are not reimbursed.
