About

A studio residency in Alice Springs honouring NZ-born artist Suzi Lyon, open to any artist from Aotearoa or Australia at any career stage.

The Stardust Residency is a studio-based artist residency held at Watch This Space (WTS) in Alice Springs (Mparntwe), established in memory of Suzi Lyon — a beloved artist, educator and mentor who lived and worked in Mparntwe for 25 years after being born in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Suzi's practice was rooted in curiosity, community and a deep reverence for the human condition and the natural world. The residency honours her spirit of inclusivity, collaboration and poetic inquiry.

The Stardust Residency offers

  • A studio space at WTS for up to 8 weeks, typically running across August and September
  • A $2,000 artist fee to support your time and practice

The residency is open to any artist residing in Aotearoa/New Zealand or Australia, at any stage of their career, working in any media or discipline. Whether you're early in your creative journey or a seasoned practitioner, this residency welcomes you.

In keeping with Suzi's practice and WTS's vision, the Stardust Residency encourages inspired experimentation, artistic expression, critical thinking and community conversation. Residents are expected to engage with the broader Mparntwe community and contribute to the vibrant creative culture of Watch This Space.

Applications for the 2026 residency are open — visit the WTS website for the application link.
