About
Project funding from the City of Stuttgart for artists and cultural organisations working across visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, media, and int
The City of Stuttgart's Department of Culture offers project funding for professional, freelance, and collaborative cultural initiatives taking place in Stuttgart. Applications are welcome from local and international artists, cultural organisations, associations, and neighbourhood-based initiatives.
Funding is available across a wide range of disciplines, including visual art, media art, theatre, dance, literature, philosophy, music, sound, interdisciplinary projects, cultural participation, and public art. Each category has its own annual budget allocation — for example, Performing Arts projects can access up to €402,000 in total funding, while Visual/Media Arts sits at €92,800 and Music/Sound at €116,050.
The programme values artistic quality, innovation, social relevance, and genuine community participation. Projects can be hosted in institutions, public spaces, or neighbourhood contexts, and may address themes such as cultural participation, social cohesion, or creative partnerships. Artist remuneration is required to meet minimum professional standards.
To apply, you'll need to submit a completed discipline-specific application form, a project description with budget plan, and a CV or portfolio. For participatory or social cohesion projects, an optional video presentation and motivation letter may be included. Projects in public spaces will also need approval from Stuttgart's Office for Public Order.
Funding decisions are made by independent juries. Note that double funding for the same project from different city departments is not permitted. Applications are submitted online — visit the Stuttgart culture funding portal to access the relevant forms for your discipline.
