About

Open call for professional artists to create site-specific, cross-disciplinary or participatory works in the Tennengau region of Austria for a 2027 festival.

The Supergau Festival 2027 is inviting professional artists — individuals or groups — from anywhere in the world to submit project proposals for realisation in the Tennengau region of Salzburg, Austria.

Supergau treats the Gaue (the five administrative districts of Salzburg province) as living cultural spaces, not just geographical boundaries. The festival is deliberately rooted in rural settings, positioning artistic practice as a driver of cultural development outside major urban centres.

Projects should grow from the Tennengau region itself and engage with societal, social, economic, or political themes relevant to the area. The organisers are especially keen on works that are spatially or landscape-driven, interventionist in character, cross-disciplinary in approach, or that build participatory formats in collaboration with local communities — including initiatives, associations, institutions, and residents, particularly children, teenagers, and young adults.

Budget Categories (gross, inclusive of fees, production, and travel):

  • Category A: €3,000 – €10,000 (up to 5 works selected)
  • Category B: €10,000 – €20,000 (up to 4 works selected)
  • Category C: €20,000 – €30,000 (up to 3 works selected)

The total open call budget is €200,000, split equally between 2026 and 2027.

Mandatory Residency: All selected artists must participate in a one-week research and networking residency in Tennengau from 21–27 September 2026. Supergau covers accommodation and meals for up to two people per group, plus a tiered travel allowance. During the festival itself, an accommodation allowance of €50/person/day is available if housing cannot be provided directly.
