About

Join the 10-day live artist symposium in Omokoroa. Create work responding to local history & whenua. 10–12 spots available.

Public Art Omokoroa, in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival, presents Symposium at the Point 2026. This 10-day event transforms the local landscape into a "working artist studio," allowing the public to witness the development and completion of site-specific artworks. Curated by Darcell Apelu (Toi Ohomai), the symposium invites 10–12 artists to create works that respond to the histories, relationships, and whenua (land) of Omokoroa. Selected artists will engage with a curatorial kaupapa (framework) that acknowledges the deep-rooted stories of the people and the place. This is a unique opportunity for artists to showcase their process to a national audience while contributing to the permanent cultural fabric of the Western Bay of Plenty. Expressions of interest should be emailed to submissions@publicartomokoroa.org
