About

An online juried photography exhibition exploring psychological depth and interior life in portraiture, open internationally to photographers 18+.

This Is a Person is a juried online photography exhibition hosted by Decagon Gallery, exploring what lies beneath surface appearance in portraiture. Rather than seeking likeness, the exhibition invites photographs that suggest interior life — images that hold psychological tension, ambiguity, vulnerability, or contradiction.

Work that relies on dramatic styling, sentimentality, or literal interpretation will be unlikely to be selected. The exhibition is intentionally selective, with approximately 10–12% of submissions accepted. One image per selected artist will be exhibited on the Decagon Gallery website from May 20 to July 20.

Juried by Hossein Fardinfard, a portrait photographer whose practice explores identity, self-perception, and psychological space. Submissions will be evaluated with particular attention to emotional restraint, conceptual clarity, and the relationship between subject and photographer.

Awards:

  • First Place: $500 USD + Solo Exhibition on the gallery website
  • Second Place: $300 USD
  • Third Place: $200 USD

Awards are selected from exhibited works and paid via PayPal, Venmo, MoneyGram, or cheque (not available to countries under US sanctions).

Entry Fee: $25 USD for up to 8 images.

Eligibility: Open internationally to all photographers aged 18 and over. All photographic processes are welcome — both analogue and digital. Submit JPG files at 2100 pixels on the long side, without text, watermarks, borders, or frames.

Selected photographers will be notified before the public announcement is made.
