Times Square Arts: Midnight Moment & Major Projects Open Call

Times Square Arts runs two distinct programmes open to artists worldwide on a rolling basis — Major Projects and Midnight Moment — both accepting proposals through the Slideroom online portal.

Major Projects invites proposals for large-scale public art installations, performances, and commissions in one of the world's most visited public spaces. Installations typically run 4–6 weeks in spring/summer or fall/winter, with primary sites at Duffy Square and the Broadway pedestrian plazas (46th–47th Sts), though alternative locations within the district are welcome. Proposals should include a conceptual and logistical project description, proposed site, production timeline, preferred presentation schedule, preliminary budget, and any potential funding sources. You'll need to submit an artist CV/bio, 1–5 portfolio items (high-res JPG, PDF, TIFF at 300 DPI, or HD video), and any relevant website or press kit links. Once approved, Times Square Arts works with you to build and manage the budget.

Midnight Moment is the world's largest and longest-running digital public art programme. Every night from 11:57pm–12:00am, original moving-image artwork is synchronised across 90+ electronic billboards between 41st and 49th Streets — seen by millions each year. A new artist is featured each month. Works must be completed moving-image pieces (no stills), silent (no audio channels on billboards), free of nudity, logos, advertising, or overtly political content, and visually legible at large scale across varying aspect ratios. Saturated, high-contrast colours work well; sustained bright white should be avoided. Mandatory submission includes a horizontal format video of 170 seconds (2:50) and 1–3 still images at 18"x24", 300 DPI. World or NYC premieres are appreciated, though reimagined edits of previous works are also considered. Artists retain ownership and responsibility for all licences.

Both programmes value equity and diversity across artists, traditions, subjects, and approaches. Proposals may be made in partnership with cultural institutions or timed to coincide with concurrent exhibitions or performances. Due to capacity, the team will only contact applicants if there is interest in the work.
