The Aotea Sea Scouts Hall in Onehunga stands between land and water, much as the young people who pass through it stand between dependence and independence. Raised above the Manukau harbour on timber stilts, the building becomes a metaphor for childhood itself: supported while learning to venture out into an uncertain world.
