About

Free international open call for contemporary artists to be selected for a 10-day curated presentation at BUAT Gallery in Barcelona.

BUAT Gallery in Barcelona invites contemporary artists from around the world to apply for the BUAT Curatorial Award 2026 — a free international open call culminating in a 10-day curated presentation for one selected artist.

The programme is designed to identify and present a distinct artistic voice through a focused curatorial approach. Submissions are assessed on conceptual clarity, artistic consistency, and coherence of body of work.

Selection Process

All applications go through an initial eligibility review by the BUAT curatorial team. Preselected applicants may be announced publicly, followed by a shortlist of five artists. One artist is then selected as the Award winner.

What the Selected Artist Receives

  • A 10-day presentation within the gallery space
  • Curatorial guidance and project development
  • Installation support
  • Exhibition documentation
  • Inclusion in the gallery's curatorial programme

What to Submit

  • 5–10 artworks as a PDF or link
  • Website, Instagram, or portfolio link
  • Optional artist statement and CV

The call is open to painting, works on paper, mixed media, and related visual practices. Other media may be considered where suitable for the gallery space.

Optional Curatorial Support

Applicants may optionally request a Curatorial Report (€35) — a 1–2 page written response on portfolio positioning and development — or a Curatorial Essay (€180) — a professionally written 2–3 page curatorial text suitable for grants, residency applications, and exhibition materials. These are entirely optional and do not influence the selection outcome.

BUAT Gallery is based in Barcelona's Sant Pere neighbourhood and operates a research-driven programme with an academic curatorial approach, positioning contemporary practices alongside historically significant works.

Deadline: 30 June 2026. Free to enter.
