Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography
International grant of €25,000 total for projects exploring vernacular and everyday photography — past or contemporary — across two thematic categories.
The eidolon Grant returns for its third year, offering a total of €25,000 to support ambitious projects centred on vernacular and everyday photography. Run by the Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography in Budapest, this international programme welcomes artists, academics, researchers, collectors, and enthusiasts who are seriously engaged with the image heritage of daily life.
Applications are open under two categories
Category 1 — Contemporary Everyday Photographic Cultures
Projects that critically examine digital images, social media, networked image cultures, and their social, political, historical, and aesthetic implications in the 21st century. Eidolon is looking for thoughtful, in-depth work that explores how digital image practices shape — and are shaped by — contemporary culture and technology.
Category 2 — Everyday Photographs of the Past
Projects engaging with 19th and 20th-century everyday photography through public or private archives, exploring collective histories and memories. Eidolon encourages work that highlights overlooked photographs, examines preservation and safekeeping practices, or investigates the development of the photographic apparatus and its cultural impact.
Eligible project formats include long-form essays, article series, English translations of significant non-English publications, original books (with photographic illustrations — note: photobook proposals are not currently sought), multimedia artworks, digital projects, site-specific works, workshops, short documentaries, video essays, group or solo exhibitions, talk events, masterclasses, and research groups.
Applications must be submitted in English via a dedicated Typeform page — email submissions will not be accepted. Required materials include a structured abstract (max. 2,000 characters), a short CV and project overview (single PDF, max. 3 pages), a detailed project description with timeline, objectives, methodology, and visuals (max. 10 pages), a completed budget using the official Excel template, and where relevant, writing samples or a signed institutional consent letter.
Grant recipients will be announced in November 2026. Payments are made in three or four instalments based on project volume and timeline, coordinated with winners before contracts are finalised.
