Open call for 2027 exhibition proposals at Forrester Gallery, Ōamaru — community and general categories welcome.
Forrester Gallery & Mahika Kai Mahika Toi is calling for exhibition proposals for their 2027 programme, with space available in both the community gallery (Kakī) and the ground-floor gallery Tarapirohe.
This callout is split into two categories
Community category (Kakī): Designed for early career artists living locally in the Waitaki district. This strand supports emerging practitioners to develop and show their work in a regional public art gallery context.
General category (Tarapirohe): Open to any artist or group wanting to exhibit in the main ground-floor gallery in 2027. Artists based anywhere in Aotearoa — or internationally — are welcome to apply. (Note: international freight costs cannot be covered, but moving image submissions from internationally based artists are especially encouraged.)
Artists living in the Waitaki district may apply to both categories. Those based further afield may apply to the general callout only.
Forrester Gallery is looking for engaging and experimental work that reflects the diverse arts ecology of te rohe o Waitaki. They're committed to making this process as inclusive and accessible as possible — if you have any barriers to participating, please reach out and let them know.
Full application details will be available via the Culture Waitaki website and social media shortly. One-on-one information sessions (in person or online) can be arranged with gallery curator Anna McLean.
