Three paid 8-month choreography residencies in Hamburg for early-career choreographers, running August 2027 to April 2028.
K3 – Zentrum für Choreographie | Tanzplan Hamburg is offering three paid eight-month residencies for choreographers at the beginning of their careers. The residency runs from August 2027 to April 2028 and is designed to give choreographers genuine time and space to research, develop, and present a full-length work in Hamburg.
Each resident receives a monthly scholarship for living expenses (approximately €2,500/month, as in the 2025/26 season), one-time travel costs from and to their home, visa and administrative support, a production budget for the final performances, and access to K3's studios throughout the residency. The K3 team provides dramaturgical, technical, organisational, and PR support. Accessibility costs can be covered in most cases, and support for care responsibilities (children or next of kin) can also be arranged.
Applications are welcome from choreographers working in all fields — including dance for young audiences, public space, and film. No formal dance education is required. Only individual applications are accepted (not teams or ensembles). Applicants must be available to live in Hamburg for the full eight months.
Note: During the 2027/28 season, K3 and Kampnagel are undergoing renovations. Studios will remain available throughout, and premieres will take place in theatres or non-theatrical spaces across Hamburg.
Application process:
Info Zoom sessions are available on 30 June (10:00 CEST) and 6 August (17:00 CEST) for those considering applying.
Applications are especially encouraged from people who experience discrimination, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, Sinti*zze and Rom*nja, Jewish, Muslim, and refugee communities, people with migration backgrounds, people with disabilities, and Deaf or hard-of-hearing artists.
