Meanwhile Gallery Open Call 2027

Meanwhile Gallery is open for exhibition proposals for their 2027 programme! Whether you're working solo or with a group, they'd love to hear about your contemporary art practice and what you'd like to bring to their Wellington space.

They're looking for month-long exhibitions that push at the edges of contemporary art making — experimental, explorative, and engaged. Proposals are reviewed by the Meanwhile committee alongside guest members from the Te Whanganui-ā-Tara art community.

What to include in your proposal (submitted as a single PDF):

• A project description (max 500 words)
• A timeline and preferred show dates
• A project budget (if applicable)
• Public programming ideas
• Artist bio for each participant (max 150 words each)
• 4–7 examples of proposed or previous works, or links to video/audio
• Any other supporting material such as sketches or drafts

What successful applicants receive:

• An artist fee
• A dedicated facilitator to assist with installation, curatorial direction, and your opening event
• Graphic design, exhibition photography, and a written response from an art writer
• Additional funding support for public programming components

Projects that include workshops, screenings, performances, readings, gigs, book launches, or other public events are especially encouraged — Meanwhile wants to hear about those ideas too, even if your proposal doesn't fit the traditional exhibition format.
