About

A one-year scholarship for figurative artists in the UK, offering free part-time classes, mentoring, and an exhibition opportunity at Morley College London.

The Zsuzsi Roboz Scholarship is offered in memory of celebrated painter Zsuzsi Roboz, made possible through the generosity of the Alfred Teddy Smith and Zsuzsi Roboz Art Trust. It supports contemporary figurative artists of promise working in the United Kingdom — primarily in painting, drawing, or sculpture — with a one-year part-time study programme at Morley College London.

The scholarship includes a tailored programme of free classes across three academic terms, personal tutoring and mentoring from a professional artist and teacher, and an opportunity to exhibit your work in Morley's gallery at the end of the year (September 2027).

Figurative art in this context refers to work related to human form or other forms of figuration that depict people and engage with the politics of representation.

Eligibility:

  • Aged 19 or over in September 2026
  • Working primarily in 2D or 3D media
  • A committed artist with a developed artistic vision who needs support with the next steps of their career
  • Willing to commit to part-time study over a full academic year

Application requirements:

  • Three statements (max 200 words each): why you want the scholarship, how it will impact your practice, and where you'd like to be at the end of the programme
  • An up-to-date CV
  • A digital portfolio of 10–20 images with scale and materials noted for each

Submit your application via WeTransfer to [email protected] by midnight on Tuesday 7 July 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide referees and physical examples of work. Interviews take place the week of 13–17 July 2026.

Applications are encouraged from diverse backgrounds regardless of age, disability, gender, racial origin, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation.
