About
NZFC fund supporting NZ screen sector organisations to deliver filmmaker development programmes, with grants up to $350,000.
The Industry Development Fund from the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) / Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga supports screen sector organisations, companies, and collectives to deliver intensive, project-based filmmaker development programmes across Aotearoa.
The fund is focused on building a stronger screen industry by developing craft and practice — helping filmmakers make the strongest films possible. For 2025–2026, key priorities include impactful script development leading to distinctive feature films, director and producer skills development for first and second features, and strong filmmaker collaborations with produced outcomes including short films. Programmes that identify and support newer storytellers from Māori and diverse New Zealand communities are also strongly encouraged.
Two funding strands are available:
- Strand 1: Applications of up to $350,000 NZD. Opens twice in the 2025–2026 financial year. A pre-application meeting must be booked at least two weeks before the deadline. Decisions take up to eight weeks.
- Strand 2: Grants of up to $30,000 NZD, available on a rolling basis while funds last. Decisions take up to four weeks.
Who can apply: Screen sector organisations, companies, or collectives registered in New Zealand.
What to submit:
- Organisation/applicant biography and website
- Information on who will deliver the programme and their relevant experience
- Full programme schedule, intended outcomes, target participants, and alignment with fund objectives
- Previous delivery history (if applicable)
- Detailed budget including any other income or investment
Applications are assessed on alignment with fund objectives, strategic NZFC objectives (creative excellence, authenticity, diversity, equity and inclusion), and the credibility and track record of the delivering organisation. Applications are considered in line with the NZFC Rautaki Māori Strategy and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Submit via the NZFC application portal. Check the NZFC website for current round deadlines.
