Submit an exhibition proposal to play_station gallery for a month-long public show with full curatorial, installation, and design support.
play_station is inviting proposals for its 2027 exhibition programme, supported by Creative New Zealand. This is an open call for artists based in Aotearoa New Zealand — international proposals will not be accepted.
Selected artists will receive a month-long public exhibition with a comprehensive support package including: a dedicated gallery facilitator, graphic design for digital and print promotion, an email-out to play_station's database, onsite technical, installation, and curatorial assistance, staffing for opening night and throughout the exhibition run (Thursday to Saturday), and professional photography of the show.
The gallery is open Thursday and Friday 11am–5pm, and Saturday 11am–4pm. Openings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each exhibition period, from 5.30pm–8pm. play_station provides beer and water for openings; exhibitors are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic drinks.
Works may be offered for sale, with prices inclusive of GST. play_station takes a 30% commission on all sales during the exhibition period. Price stickers or labels on gallery walls are not permitted.
Installation can begin from the Sunday before the exhibition opens. Basic tools and materials are provided — artists should arrange any specialist equipment they need. Deinstallation takes place on the Saturday immediately after the exhibition closes, and prompt collection of work is appreciated. Artists are responsible for transportation and insurance costs.
To apply, submit a single PDF (formatted as LASTNAMEFIRSTNAMEPROPOSAL.pdf) of no more than 600 words to playstation.space.info@gmail.com. Your proposal should include:
Applications are assessed by the play_station programming panel, made up of board members and guest artists and curators. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of November.
