Rice Pudding Gallery
Artist-led gallery space in Newtown, Wellington offering two-week exhibition slots in a street-facing shop window venue for $400 koha.
Rice Pudding is a warm, artist-led gallery space in the heart of Newtown, Wellington, set up by artists to support other artists. Located in the front of a historic storehouse at 91 Constable Street, the gallery features large street-facing shop windows and a clean, modern space measuring 7.3m x 2.6m — ideal for exhibitions, installations, sculpture, performance, soundscapes, and pop-up events.
Exhibitions run over a fortnight, with Thursday and Friday for install, a Friday opening, nine days of exhibition, and Monday and Tuesday for de-install. The space is available for a $400 koha (including a $50 deposit to secure your booking), and Rice Pudding takes no commission on any sales.
As an exhibiting artist, you'll install and de-install your own work, host an opening event, open the gallery to the public, and promote your show through your own channels. Rice Pudding will back you up with promotion through their Facebook, Instagram, and mailing list, plus practical advice on installation, audience engagement, and connecting with visitors.
The gallery is interested in a diverse mix of media, content, cultures, and experience levels — from established practitioners to first-time exhibitors. Group shows and curated experiences are very welcome.
To apply, send a proposal including your contact details, preferred booking dates, an overview of your exhibition idea or kaupapa, visual references, and a short artist bio to 91ricepuddings@gmail.com.
