Studio One Toi Tū
Six-month studio residency in Auckland for early-career visual artists, with stipend, materials budget, mentoring, and an end-of-residency exhibition.
Studio One Toi Tū is inviting applications for its 2026 Emerging Artists Residency Programme — an outcomes-focused opportunity for early-career visual artists and collectives to dedicate real time and space to their practice.
Two residency recipients will be selected, one for each stream:
Stream 1: Ceramics & Sculpture Residency — for artists working in three-dimensional practices including ceramics, sculpture, installation, and mixed media.
Stream 2: Visual Arts (General) Residency — open to all contemporary visual arts practices including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video, digital arts, and interdisciplinary approaches.
Each recipient receives six months of dedicated studio space at Studio One Toi Tū (November 2026 – April 2027), with 24-hour access to facilities, kiln and ceramic equipment, and general workshop tools. The residency concludes with an end-of-residency exhibition running 17 May – 5 June 2027.
What's included:
Applications are open to all artists, with preference given to those residing in the Waitematā Local Board area and/or who identify as Mana Whenua, in keeping with Studio One Toi Tū's commitment to Te Tiriti and local communities.
All applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and available for the full residency duration, including the exhibition. Artist collectives are welcome — one nominated person must act as primary contact.
An information evening with a studio site visit takes place on Wednesday 12 August, 6:30–7:30pm at Studio One Toi Tū. All welcome.
