UXBRIDGE Arts and Culture / Uxbridge Community Charitable Trust
A $5,000 fellowship supporting early-career architects, architectural students, or researchers with a connection to East Auckland.
The UXBRIDGE Malcolm Smith Architecture Fellowship honours the legacy of Malcolm Smith (1930–2010), a community-minded architect and key figure in establishing UXBRIDGE Arts and Culture in East Auckland.
This fellowship offers $5,000 to support an early-career architect, architectural student, or architectural researcher looking to advance or accelerate their practice. Funds can be put towards project research, development costs, professional development, or travel — whatever best supports your proposed undertaking.
Who can apply?
You must have a genuine connection to East Auckland — whether through current or past residence, cultural affiliation, or practice rooted in the region (Howick, Bucklands Beach, Pakuranga, East Tamaki, Botany, or Flat Bush). You'll also need to be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, aged 18 or over, and able to complete your project within 24 months.
This fellowship is open to individuals only — organisations and groups are not eligible, though individuals working collaboratively may still apply in their own name.
What to submit:
Applications should be submitted as PDF or Word documents, with audio/video materials as web links, to director@uxbridge.org.nz by 11:59 PM on 6 December 2026.
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to interview. The fellowship will be confirmed by 18 December 2026 and publicly announced on 1 February 2027, when funds are allocated.
Recipients will be asked to complete a Final Report within 60 days of completing their project and to share outcomes through UXBRIDGE's programme platforms.
