Creative Communities Scheme Whakatāne

The Creative Communities Scheme supports local arts and cultural activity in the Whakatāne District, funded by Creative New Zealand and administered locally by Whakatāne District Council.

This scheme is designed to bring arts and culture into everyday community life — funding a wide range of projects including events, festivals, exhibitions, installations, workshops, and performances. All art forms are eligible, and applications are welcome from both individuals and organisations.

There are two funding rounds in 2026

• Round 1: Open 13 April – 3 May 2026 (approx. $20,000 available)
• Round 2: Open 14 September – 4 October 2026 (approx. $20,000 available)

Eligibility:

• Applicants must be based in or actively working within the Whakatāne District
• Funding is for projects that primarily deliver outcomes within the local arts sector
• Funding cannot be used for health, wellbeing, fitness, or environmental initiatives as the primary focus
• Ongoing administration costs, permanent facility development, and fundraising events are not eligible
