About
Fully funded 3-month international fellowship in Athens, Greece for visual artists, curators, and scholars from outside Greece.
ARCAthens is calling for applications to its Fall 2026 Athens Residency — a fully funded, three-month international fellowship running from 10 September to 30 November 2026.
Supported by a major grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, this residency brings two international Fellows to Athens to engage deeply with the city's contemporary cultural scene. The programme is research-led and free of commercial production pressure, offering instead a rich itinerary of studio visits, private collection access, institutional tours, and community networking events.
Fellows are asked to fulfil two commitments during their stay: facilitating an educational seminar with students at the Athens School of Fine Arts, and participating in a public event such as an artist talk or panel discussion for local audiences.
Who can apply?
Visual artists, curators, art historians/researchers, and social practice practitioners from any country are welcome — as long as you currently live outside Greece. The working language of the programme is English.
What's covered:
- $3,000 USD fellowship award
- $200 USD per week living stipend
- Return economy flights from your home base to Athens
- On-site accommodation with private bedroom, shared kitchen and bathroom
Fellows are responsible for their own food, personal transport, and any artwork production or shipping costs.
How to apply:
Submit your application through the ARCAthens website before 11:00 PM ET on 30 June 2026. Your application should include:
- Contact details and portfolio links
- Professional CV
- Statement of Intent outlining your research interests and motivation for engaging with Athens
- A visual portfolio or writing samples
Applications are reviewed by an independent three-person panel of arts professionals. Shortlisted candidates will be notified in mid-July 2026.
Non-EU applicants should be aware of European Entry/Exit System (EES) requirements when travelling to the Schengen Area, and are responsible for arranging any necessary visas.
