Black Box Gallery invites photographers from around the world to submit work for *Framed: Shadow and Light*, a juried group exhibition exploring how shadow and light shape the photographic image.
Photography is fundamentally the documentation of patterns of darkness and light — and this call looks at the full spectrum of that relationship. Whether you work with dramatic high-contrast black and white, or explore moody, ethereal textures in colour, the gallery is interested in a wide range of contemporary interpretations of shadow and light as subject and as form.
What's on offer:
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, free matting, and free framing for all selected works. You simply supply a high-resolution Tiff or JPEG file — the gallery does the rest, printing on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer with premium luster photo paper in a colour-calibrated environment.
Exhibition details:
Juror: Todd Johnson, founder and director of Black Box Gallery, MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, with 25 years of experience in arts education and curation.
Sales: Black Box takes 50% commission on any sales. You may also opt to have your work listed for exhibition and promotion only, with no sale. All rights remain with the photographer — no printing or sale occurs without your prior consent.
Entry fee: $40 USD per entry (up to 5 photos per entry), paid via PayPal.
How to apply: Pay the entry fee, then email info.blackboxgallery@gmail.com with the subject line *Framed: Shadow and Light*. Include your name, call name, optional Instagram handle, photo titles with corresponding file names, and attach up to 5 JPEG files (1200px on longest side, 72 PPI, 5 MB or less each).
All applicants will be notified of juror selections 7–10 days after the deadline.
