Chief Executive

The Whangārei Art Trust is looking for an exceptional Chief Executive to lead its next chapter — a significant moment that brings together the Hundertwasser Art Centre and Whangārei Art Museum under one unified organisation.

This is a high-profile executive role for a strategic, commercially minded leader who thrives on complexity and community impact. You'll be responsible for integrating two distinct teams and operations, delivering the Trust's long-term vision, and ensuring the organisation becomes a financially sustainable and beloved cultural destination for Northland and beyond.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading organisational integration across people, systems, culture and operations
• Building and maintaining relationships with local government, the Hundertwasser Foundation in Vienna, local iwi, community partners and funders
• Serving as the public face of the Trust — confident with media and external stakeholders
• Overseeing the care and development of the Whangārei Art Museum collection and the city's wider art collection
• Driving financial sustainability and continuous improvement
• Positioning Whangārei as a destination for arts, culture and tourism

What you'll bring:

• Experience at Chief Executive, General Manager, Executive Director or equivalent senior leadership level
• Strong commercial and financial acumen
• A track record of leading organisational transformation
• Ability to build trusted relationships with Boards, iwi, funders and community partners
• Excellent communication and people leadership skills
• Experience in arts, culture, tourism, museums or not-for-profit sectors is desirable but not required
