Children's Art Educator (Contractor)

Creative Matters is an award-winning Auckland-based arts education business delivering children's visual art workshops across schools and holiday venues. Under new ownership since June 2025, the programme's values remain the same: nurturing creativity in every child through hands-on, skill-based art making in a calm and positive environment.

We're looking for passionate, experienced arts educators to join our team as contractors. This is a long-term, recurring role — not a one-off gig. You'll be working sole-charge with groups of up to 13 children aged 6–12, teaching a range of creative modalities including painting, watercolour, drawing, paper mache, sculpture, and clay work.

What the role involves:

• Delivering after-school workshops (3–5pm), school holiday programmes (8:30am–3:30pm), art day intensives, and shopping mall activations across Auckland
• Following Creative Matters' themed lesson plans and educator guides (provided via Google Drive)
• Managing classroom behaviour, child safety, and group dynamics solo
• Setting up and packing down the workshop space, returning all materials clean and organised
• Communicating with parents, caregivers, and school/venue staff professionally
• Using Ubeya (scheduling app) and Enrolmy (booking/enrolment system)

Locations include: Mt Eden/Epsom, Herne Bay, Ponsonby, Kohimarama, Ellerslie, Takapuna, Kumeu, Grey Lynn, Pt Chev, New Lynn, Orakei, and Huapai.

What we're looking for:

• Trained teachers preferred (aligns with our child safety and educational goals)
• Proficiency across drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
• Strong classroom management skills, especially with neurodiverse learners
• Reliable transport to collect and return art materials from our storeroom
• A current or active arts practice is a bonus
• A warm, energetic, organised, and resilient personality

What we offer:

• $40/hr contractor rate
• Flexible term-by-term availability confirmation
• One 2-hour paid in-person training session (plus $40 travel reimbursement)

Onboarding requirements: 3 referees, disclosure of criminal convictions, and police vetting. Child safety is our absolute priority.
