Senior leadership role at Toi Aotearoa leading Māori arts strategy, investment, and sector development across Aotearoa.
Toi Aotearoa (Creative New Zealand) is seeking a Pou Mātārae Māori — a senior leadership role sitting at the heart of the organisation's future direction.
This is a significant leadership opportunity for someone deeply rooted in te ao Māori, with mana, knowledge, and strong relationships across iwi, hapū, Māori organisations, artists, and communities throughout Aotearoa.
As Pou Mātārae Māori, you will lead Toi Aotearoa's Māori arts strategy and investment priorities, provide leadership to Te Kāhui Māori, and serve as a key leader across the wider organisation. You will bring expertise in Māori arts, mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and strategic engagement — as well as experience in investment advocacy, partnerships, and policy.
Toi Aotearoa is undergoing a significant organisational transformation, moving toward a new operating model designed to strengthen leadership, connectivity, investment, and impact across the arts sector. The Pou Mātārae Māori will be central to embedding Māori arts priorities into the organisation's leadership practices and processes.
You will be known for your leadership capabilities in Māori contexts, your ability to build relationships across diverse communities, your influence at senior sector levels, and your confidence in advancing Māori aspirations with courage, care, and authority.
To be eligible, you must be a New Zealand citizen or resident, or hold a valid work visa. Candidates are reviewed as applications come in — early applications are encouraged.
